JJ Tondo - Dispatch 001
Earlier this season we outfitted JJ with our new Open Water 38mm and asked him to put it to the test and check in with us periodically.
Vero Dispatch 001: Looking Out My Backdoor
I’ve been focused on fishing, in what is essentially my backyard, mangrove shorelines and flats with the sparkle and shimmer of bait narrowly escaping predation. The Open Water 38mm has been a huge upgrade from my last watch, slim but sturdy and a seamless transition from grabbing bait out of the livewell to date night.
We’ve had a dry spring with plenty of wind and difficult conditions. The snook bite ramped up with early warm weather, and the reds have been moving through the shade of the mangroves as of late. The snapper are getting into keeper size range and aggressive enough to catch on fly.
As the winds die and the heat of summer creeps over us from the tropics, I’m looking forward to fishing the beach migrations locally and maybe a mountain excursion to the Appalachians for stocked and wild trout.
